How to Clean Pavé Diamonds Without Loosening Stones

How to Clean Pavé Diamonds Without Loosening Stones

Jewelry care is an essential part of owning timeless accessories. Pavé diamonds can make cleaning nerve racking due to the possible loosening of the stone. Don't worry, we have your guide to cleaning those tricky little stones so that they stay put.

Cleaning pavé diamonds is all about gentleness and precision. Of course you can take your jewelry to a professional to have them cleaned, but sometimes we want something quicker, more DIY. You’ll first want to avoid harsh chemicals like toothpaste or bleach so that your delicate jewelry doesn’t get damaged. Ultrasonic cleaners are another tool to avoid. While they can get the diamonds clean, they can be too vigorous for the delicate pavé settings.

Now that you know what not to use, let’s get to cleaning!

1. Make Cleaning Solution: Pour warm water into a bowl and add a few drops of a mild dish soap. As a reminder, make sure to avoid soaps that contain moisturizer, dye, or abrasive ingredients.

2. Soak Your Jewelry: Soak the pavé diamond piece in the solution for about 15-20 minutes. This will loosen up the dirt and oils lodged between the stones.

3. Gently Scrub: Using a soft-bristled toothbrush, carefully scrub the diamonds. Be delicate and gentle to further avoid loosening any stones.

4. Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse your piece thoroughly either under warm water with the drain covered or rinse out your bowl and refill it with just warm water.

5. Pat Dry: gently pat your jewelry dry with a soft, lint-free cloth or a microfiber towel. Let it air dry fully before showing it off again.
